I use to take the PIT-TOL flight several times a month, I'd fly into TOL then drive up to various locations in Michigan, the reason being it was much cheaper to fly into TOL and drive a couple of hours. The flights into MI including DTW are very expensive. This stoppage of service is going to have a significant adverse affect on how I do business there. Thanks US!!

LOL... youre totally right, except (to further prove your point) get this...

For my travel regarding CLE and PIT, I am booked right now on two separate tickets. For instance on one day they match up to be something like this:

BWI-PIT-CLE (1 hour at CLE) then CLE-PIT-YYZ. it was cheaper to book from CLE than from PIT and definitely cheaper than rebooking.

But as you said a FTer doesnt mind too much.

On an aside, I might start to mind if it becomes

BWI-PIT-CLT-CLE-CLT-PIT-YYZ,

but that will depend on my mood and how much of it will be on 321's (for the upg) oh yea wait, doubt much of it at all would be on 321- more likely CRJ or something else that smells like a winnabego. Sorry for the sarcasm.

According to a WV Gazette article, http://wvgazette.com/section/Business/2004080531 "US Airways is in the process of upgrading its turbo props to regional jets. In October, the airline will have seven jets instead of two operating its 14 daily departures from Charleston.

The airline also released its schedule for November, which includes an additional daily jet departure to Philadelphia and continued service to Pittsburgh. But, US Airways is replacing one of its jets for its four daily Pittsburgh flights with a turbo prop."

It also noted that flyi had done well in it's first 8 days in service with 1,073 passengers served. US however is still #1 at CRW in pax served.

Ugh. Houston? Isn't that a significant destination. Guess I will be on Continental, who have the most worthless frequent flyer program. I have never been able to redeem one of their 25,000 mile awards - even a year in advance....................................

I had a job assignment in Michigan for 16 months and would fly back to DC quite often on the weekends in 2001 and 2002. It was in south central Michigan -- I always flew out of TOL (and not DTW) to PIT to DCA for several reasons:
1. Cheaper -- Tickets were $130 to $160 round trip
2. Easier drive: 1 and 1/4 hour to TOL across the Ohio turnpike and opposed to 1 and 3/4 hour to DTW
3. Parking was a breeze at TOL (and cheaper) as the lot is like a shopping mall lot.

Next weekend I am flying to DTW to attend a cousin's wedding in the Detroit suburbs and fares have come down with the introduction of Spirit on the DCA-DTW route. I was pricing out this trip in the spring and it was $300. I bought the ticket when fares went down in June and paid $150.

No such luck going to Houston. Continental is flying regional jets down there from PIT too, except for an occasional 737 on the 6pm flight. Even more reason to fly American to DFW to go south. MD-80s aren't great but at least they're full sized!

kind of amazing how fast pit is being cut. especially when you consider that this is just the tip of the iceberg. By all accounts, more cuts are coming.

RDG (Reading, PA) will be losing Express service to PIT and with it ALL commercial service. 65 miles out of PHL doesn't give it EAS. I have been debating using miles to take the last flight out on September 4th as it will be some time before RDG sees service again. :td:

There has been some rumor of NW coming in which I have mixed feelings on. I have really gotten used to US as the hometown carrier but I really do like the Saabs over pretty much anything else that flies commuter.

Colgan is getting the ESA at BFD beginning 10/8 upgrading to SAAB's not B1900's.

As a BFD native now living in BLF/BKW area, this pi55es me off. We begged Colgan to upgrade the service here to Saab's. Then they turn around a month ago and move hub service to circle trips 1 x CMH and 2 x IAD. What kind of connects could anyone do there? (We've done this on another thread, so won't repeat here).

So, either BFD gets more traffic than I can remember, or the ESA deal was good for Colgan.

Anyway, here's the article on BFD service.

BRADFORD, Pa. (AP) - Mesa Airways will stop serving the Bradford Regional Airport on Oct. 8 but be immediately replaced by another commuter airline, Colgan Air Inc., which also operates under the US Airways Express umbrella.

Although the flight schedule has yet to be decided, Colgan Air president Mike Colgan, said the only noticeable change will be that Colgan uses larger planes. The Masassas, Va.-based airline will use 34-passenger Saab 340 aircraft. Each plane will be staffed by a flight attendant and have a rest room.

The change in airlines was accomplished under the federal government's Essential Air Service subsidy program, which gives smaller airlines federal funds to guarantee service to smaller, secondary airports. EAS airports must be at least 70 miles away from a major airport, and have had commercial flight service since before 1978.

Colgan has a two-year contract to service the Bradford airport.

kind of surprised to see CLE go away. U used to be a big player in the Cleveland-Akron region. They used to also have a big load of flights to BWI. Guess now it will just be a small spoke for PHL and charlotte.
