I searched, but didnt see someone else posting this news from this afternoon:

Long and short is they start at the end of the month, non-stop to DC and then everywhere from there.
Fare to Dulles is $40 each way. A same-day midweek return is $97 all in.
As of now, the cheapest US fare to IAD or WAS is $161 all-in, but requires 14-day advance and saturday stay.
Hopefully this will at least bring down the $700 ripoff fare they normally charge.

I don't think very much traffic between WAS and PIT is O/D. I think most is connecting traffic, I mean I know the only times I've ever been to PIT have been when making connections.
On a side note, US isn't the only DC-based airline that's loosing money (with the exception of the 2nd quarter profit). Atlantic Coast Holdings Corp., parent company of I, is the #2 worst performing company in the DC area, according to the Washington Post. But I presume this is due to the transition from subsidary to stand-alone operations, etc.

It makes sense for PIT to diversify. A dominant carrier is not good for any airport's economics or the area residents.
Market should determine the use of gates etc. In reality, we all know that the dominant carriers use every political muscle to keep competetion out. US has dug its own grave in BWI, PHL & PIT.

Funny you should mention - there was a short-lived luxury bus service to Cleveland a year or so ago from PIT. By luxury I mean imagine Envoy class with extra amenities. I wondered why they didnt do it to WAS. I guess the traffic makes for odd events.

faremeasure.com says its 165 passengers per day (compared to 68 for BWI, and 600 for SFO). unclear if that is ONLY O&D from the assumptions on the site, but probably pretty close.
