I have 58k miles. My wife has 33k. We want to use our miles to go to Rome next summer. I have about 30k Diners Club points that I will convert to 15k US miles, but even if Diners lets me put them in her number, she'll only have 48k and we need 50k each.

My question: will US let us combine our miles to get her a ticket too? Or do I need to figure out a way to get her another 2k miles? Another month of Diners Club points will do it, but I want to get the tickets reserved while it's still early enough to do it.

I could just buy her other 2k miles, but for $60 that's kind of dumb. Thoughts? Thanks!

Of course the fact that there's no way you'll get two seats to Rome next summer shouldn't phase you at all... :)

There's a prayer, but that's about it. Try at the 330 day window ... Rome is one of US's top destinations for reward travel (or shall we say attempted awared travel) and summer is high season. I'm one for three in getting reward seats in trying in the past.

Just FYI, I looked at US 50k availability PHL-ROM for next June - found two dates outbound (June 20 & 28; You're welcome ;) ), but of course no return availability (as of today you can book to June 29). So my question for anyone who has done this - what's the real way to grab outbound seats at the 330-day window and then get return seats for two weeks later (which means that you have to wait two weeks)?

Also, if I'm looking to fly over on 7/9, return 7/16, when is the earliest I can book that? Is the 330 day window really a daily-rolling window? Or is it monthly (i.e. July fares all become available on 8/5?)

If it's daily, then you have an interesting game of chicken to play....I can book the fare over on 8/13, but since I can't get the return flight, I have to wait until that's available, and someone else may take 7/9-7/15 on 8/19 when I was waiting until 8/20. Thanks for bringing it up!

Yesterday I couldn't search June 30 and today I can (incidentally, there is award availability outbound PHL-ROM on the 30th). But I can't look any further out for a return.

By the way - no return availability on June 30th :(
