Going to PHX for a weekend in mid-August. Direct flights are on the 319. Anyone familiar this route and can speak to upgrades for a gold? I can be somewhat flexible on day of departure and return so if specific days are better, please advise accordingly. And if you have any thoughts on the RC Phoenix, do share
See you at R'fest! :)

I flew PHL-PHX back in June as a Gold and was upgraded both directions. Outbound (on a Thursday night) cleared at the 3-day window and the return (Sunday redeye) cleared at check-in.

Me and the Missus along with two offspring flew this route in June. I upgraded two with miles and designated one kid as a CP companion. No pre-flight drinks but water bottles were on the seat. I don't remeber much about the meals except on the way back my wife picked the salmon. Jokingly I told her "Remeber the movie Airplane, you never order fish on a plane". Well that did it, she wouldn't eat her meal and I had to give her my sandwich and my cookie as a penalty. The FA on the outbound was great. I spent about 15 minutes in the galley talking to her about US and the Roaches.
Just watch out if you rent a car in Phoenix. Some of the suburbs have automatic radar speed traps. Literally, today, I got a speeding ticket from June stating I have to appear in court Tuesday. A $149 dollar fine for 10 miles over the limit. They'll get that money when US brings back glasses and hot towels in first!

Along with the speed traps PHX is home to one of the most ridiculous "shoe carnivals". Shoes off for everyone. Regardless. But they'll insist that they're only "recommending"...

Flew three times out of PHX in Terminal 2 (US & UA/Ted) in the past three months . No shoe problems. It's the oldest terminal and in need of updating /replacement.

That's great news! Perhaps my complaining did some good ;)

It would be really cool if you could get one of those $99 fares and still get upgraded. It seems so long ago, but remember when you used to have to drive to BWI to get a decent fare on U to PHX? And that was on a flight that connected through PHL!!! LOL!!

My wife and I did just that. We're both gold, paid just over $200 each rt and both upgraded both ways last week. With the double preferred miles, plus the triple go fares and the 100% gold bonus, we each got 20,750 miles of which 8300 were preferred miles. They were also selling upgrades at the gate in PHX to "travel in the lap of luxury" for $150. The line formed quickly and the seats were gone in a flash. Our return was on a 320.

On two roundtrips PHL-PHX this spring, I only missed one upgrade, which was PHX-PHL on a 319. I did, however, have the exit row and sat next to a inebriated couple. That made the time pass a bit faster.
The PHX-PHL suffers from lousy catering (roast beef/pastrami sandwiches vs. a salad; always choose the salad).

When I am given the choice of the roast beef/pastrami sandwiches or the salad, I choose the Finlandia every time and have yet to be disappointed.
