I am looking to book a flight from DCA to LAX on a Friday afternoon in September and return from SFO to DCA on the following Friday. HAs anyone had trouble scoring upgrades on the noon flight from CLT to LAX and the 1:30PM flight from SFO to PIT? I am a US2 and trying to see which flights to book. As of now, reservations says upgrades look better for the Friday morning flights to LA thru PIT, but I would rather leave later and go thru CLT.
Thanks!

Yes. Those Friday afternoon transcon flights are packed with CPs and even some who have paid for discounted F Class.

I've missed upgrades as a CP on those flights. CPRich, IIRC, has also had less than spectacular history on that score.
You might as well forget the 1.30 to PIT. You might have better luck with the outbound CLT-LAX, as many of the weekly commute types have left by Sunday night or Monday morning.

The noon CLT-LAX is a 319, with only 12 up front. You'd do better on a 321 at 0800. The 1630 and 1800 321s are typically packed with commuters and I've missed them as a US2 before. The PIT-LAX flight might be getting better as it gets harder and harder to connect in PIT, but I wouldn't count on it. Transcons on Friday afternoon are about the most difficult upgrade there is.
This is a tough upgrade. Mr. Macska is gold and only clears 50% of the time. For our upcoming trip together, I felt it was worth it to spend the miles to upgrade ahead of time.

With the new schedule LAX-PIT is going from 3X to 2X and all on a 320 now. A lot few upgrades to go around.

Thank you for this info- do you know what the schedule is like both ways, from LAX-PIT and PIT-LAX?
