Hi,

I have a friend stopping over in BOM for one night who would like to send a few things - no valuables, mostly clothes and domestic items, weighing about 30kg - to her mom in BLR. Are there any shipping companies which would send unaccompanied baggage or a shipment from BOM to BLR? Time is not a factor so surface shipping will do.

I did a quick search on the net and came up with Blue Dart Express (www.bluedart.com/dartsurfaceline.html). The fees seem quite reasonable - Rs 900 (~USD20) for BOM to BLR and the company seems quite reputable from their website at least. I'm thinking DHL or UPS would be a lot more expensive.

Has anyone used this service before? Are there any other economical alternatives?

Blue Dart Express is a very reputed courier company and that's why expensive ($20 is quite expensive per Indian standards). There are a lot of other good courier companies which will do the job at a fraction of the cost. Most courier companies use Air as well as ground so he will have the option of next day delivery or few days and prices accordingly. There are other cheaper menas to send the parcels like Transpoters or the Bus operators but I wouldn't recommend that because its not 100% safe.

Thanks...She is not comfortable with using the bus operators, and thinks that Rs 900 is worth it to go with a reputable company like Blue Dart Express that offers door-to-door. I also found out that Indian Airlines offers a door-to-door service (www.ia-cargo.com/iccargo/indexback.jsp), in case anyone else is interested in the future.

Blue Dart at 900 bucks has to be the best option. Just take it without any worries. ^
