Ok, currently I have no status :(, so I was wondering if anybody knows how to challenge to GP.

I know Promo #3999 had a challenge for doing 10,000miles or 14 segments in 3months to get Gold to Feb '05.
From the Bonus Code thread:
"#3999 Now Gold Preferred status is more rewarding than ever. Get there faster by flying 10,000 Preferred miles or 14 segments on US Airways between March 10 and June 10, 2004 and you’ll earn status through February 28, 2005."

With the recent promos, I'll be able to do well over those 10,000 Preferred miles, and probably close to the amount of segments as well. I talked to Dividend Miles but they said "just wait for the next promotion we have"... I know theres a way but I just havent found it, and since people on here seem to know what they're talking about, help me out :-D

Thanks
Gagan

They will not let you do a direct challenge to Gold without hitting Silver first. Additionally, you must have already qualified for the same level you are at for the following year before you can challenge to the next level. For example, if you are a Silver this year, you must pass 25k tier miles or 30 segments for THIS year before you are eligible to challenge to Gold. Additionally, promo miles are NEVER good towards challenges. Challenges are only butt-in-seat miles (500 minimum per segment). The double/triple tier miles promos never apply to them. Most challenges are easiest to hit on segments unless you do a lot of transcontinental or transatlantic travel.

Has anyone received challenge credit for flights flown on UA metal but credited back to your DM account?

Fairly sure it's only for US flights on US metal.

dsingerUNC: Thanks. So what chance would I have of getting at least Silver this year? So far I'm at 8 segments, and 8,000 Preferred miles, at the end of August I"ll be in the range of 30,000 Preferred miles, and by the looks of it, 17 or 18 segments. I'd prefer to be flying the rest of the year in F if possible, hence the GP or SP challenge.

SP challenge you should be able to pull off. You won't be eligible for a GP challenge until you pass 25,000 tier miles (promos will count for this) or 30 segments. My advice is hit Silver quick, but wait until Nov 2004 to do the GP promo so that your status will be good thru Feb 2006 instead of Feb 2005. Also, don't hold your breath for upgrades as a Silver. I'm a Chairman's and have recently only been clearing most flights last minute at the gate. Enjoy the exit row seating though, it's better than regular economy. If I were a Silver on US, I'd do most of my flying in E+ on UA.

won't 30k miles get you to SP? Sounds like that's all you need. It's not GP, but it's better than no P.

dsinger: Ok, so the next question is how would I go about the SP Challenge? At least with those the 6,000 miles they say I need will count. The rep that I talked to about the GP challenge earlier said "wait until we have one"... But like I said I'm sure theres ways, and you seem to know what you're talking about :)

As for the Exit Rows and Upgrades, how do I go about those?

DeacDiggler: 30k will get me to SP, and you're right that its better than no P, but I'd rather have it now than wait until Feb '05 to get it and the benefits.

Thanks

Fax a written request to Carole Blazer (spell it right), Manager, DMSC at (336) 661-8448 stating your request and DM number. See what they say.

As far as exit rows and upgrades, once you are an SP, you just call and ask (that's the short answer).
