I'm sure this has been asked many times, so I apologize for the duplicate post. As market conditions are so volitile, however, I thought I'd get a fresh perspective...
I'm relocating to the Philadelphia area soon. Since US and UA offer greater flexibility on flights (as opposed to CO from PHL), I am going to enroll in one of the two programs. Which program offers greater benefits, and which one do you think will outlast the other?

I made the transition from US to UA last year, and I can summarize my reasons in two words: Economy Plus.
If you're going to be based in PHL, you'll probably find yourself flying on US alot more than on UA. US Preferred's get free, unlimited upgrades, subject to availability, of course. As a US Preferred, you can still reserve seats in E+ if you happen to be flying on UA.
Now, which airline offers better service once you're in F: That's an entirely different subject matter. You may want to read through the "First Class Sucks" thread in this forum if service in F is a high priority consideration for you.

The most important question you have to ask yourself is which airline and its attendant FF program will survive into 2005 and beyond.
There is only one answer to that, I am afraid, and that is not US Air.
