I actually live in Singapore, but fairly often somebody pops over for a day or two and I take them out to sample the shopping and the food and the shopping and the food and the shopping and the food and...
So the question is: when taking visitors out of town to eat, where do you go? To make life more interesting, I'll set two categories: under $10/head (hawker food) and over. Here are a few of my favorites:
Under $10
Curry fish head at Yan Kee, Jurong
Laksa at Zhan Shan Mei, Clementi
Over $10
Chilli crab at No Signboard Seafood, Kallang
Anything at Halia, Botanical Gardens

Satay at Lau Pa Sat (on the road between Lau Pa Sat and the DBS Tower after 7pm)

Beef noodle stall at Geylang, can't remember the name, but all the locals know it.

Savage25 is right, UDMC Seafod center is great. IMHO even better than No Signboard. Chilli crab is my favorite there.

I agree, I have not been to No Signboard yet, but will in Jan 2005.

I would just take them to one of the Quays so they can walk around and eat at any one of the many places. The jazz place on the corner of the Clarke is also a good place for after dinner drinks and music, me thinks.
Cheers,
