Can anyone answer this question?

I am trying to check my husband in online for a flight tomorrow PHL to STT (St Thomas). He is a GP waitlisted for an upgrade. I (CP) called in three days ago to get my upgrade confirmed, along with our friend, traveling as my companion. On the website, I can get as far as the screen that shows that my husband is in seat 3F, so apparently the uprade has cleared. But then when I push "continue" it tells me web check in is not available. So the question is, will he get 3F when he shows up at the airport, even if other waitlisted people check in before he does?

Does anyone know why the web check in wouldn't be working? Are they counting St. Thomas as International travel?

Welcome to the club as web check-in doesn't work well for alot of folks. Yes STT is considered international but you can check-in on line and using the kiosk. see http://usairways.com/travel/flightcheckin/ I have had trouble with the seat assignments also, but it was always correct on the web check-in screen. The CP desk should be able to confirm for you which seat he is in. I'm guessing he has been upgraded and there should be no problem, but would call to put the mind at ease. I hope you have a great trip

He probably has been selected for secondary screening, the dreaded SSSS. A friend of mine recently tried to check-in online and it allowed him to select his seat and at the end received an error message stating web check-in was not available.

Same exact thing happened to my wife last month. She was not able to print her BP, but did get bonus miles for web check-in. :)

Here's a slightly different form of this question.

I'm flying tomorrow on a B class coach fare that I successfully upgraded to first in advance on the basis of DM status.

When attempting to check in via the web today, I get this message:

"Flight Check-in Notice For Upgraded Itineraries

If using one of the methods below to upgrade, please cancel check in and see a US Airways Representative at the airport to check in for this flight. Otherwise, please select Continue to proceed.

Using a paper upgrade
Using a Dividend Miles award upgrade
Traveling as an upgraded companion"

Now, obviously #1 and 3 don't apply, and I'm not using miles to upgrade (which is what I would consider a "Dividend Miles award upgrade").

Does anyone have experience as to whether it's OK for me to use the web checkin for this itinerary? I'm afraid that US considers me falling into the "Using a Dividend Miles award upgrade" here and attempting to use the web checkin may cause some sort of problem, such as being assigned a random middle seat in the back of the bus. Since it's a really early flight, I'd rather not start my day by having to resolve some bizarre problem with the record.

Anyone have experience with these? I didn't see any similar questions when searching the forum. Thanks ...

I noticed this last week when I checked in for my outbound (confirmed upgrade cleared 2 days in advance) as well as my return (upgrade cleared at the gate). I just ignored the "warning" and proceeded with my on-line check-in. My boarding passes printed out with the correct seat assignments.

To the original poster: Similar thing happened to me a few weeks ago when travelling with my girlfriend, the desk agent needed to confirm that I the member supplying the upgrade was with her in order to do the check in.

KIMHARP,

I've had the same thing happen to me. I waited a little bit, restarted my computer, and was able to check in.

phlwookie,

That seems to be a new thing and I now get it every time I check in and never have a problem.

My final note on web check-in that I have seen before is that after checking in, someone else's name shows up on the boarding pass. So basically, someone's itinerary shows up. Lots of problems, but they are usually resolved after re-booting or waiting a little while. Don't try calling usairways.com support - they aren't much of a help. Good luck.

Hi everyone,

Just wanted to let you know that as you all predicted all went well this morning, and the message can be ignored for preferreds that get upgraded based upon status.

That happened to me, and it turned out it was because I was to be screened several times (I guess I'm pretty shady). I did e-mail US Airways and complain, and they gave me 1,000 bonus miles anyway simply for attempting to check in online. That was nice of them.
