Most Americans skip over Mombasa when they visit Kenya. Europeans, on the other hand, love the beaches and soak up the sun at resorts there. On the coast of the Indian Ocean is a restaurant called Tamarind which is the most romantic we have ever been to. After sunset, the moon trails light over the ocean as you watch from your table on the patio. Have the seafood platter for two - you will not be disappointed. Wonderful Indian-like seasonings (piri-piri shrimp). At the end of the meal, an Arab boy in full regalia serves you coffee from a polished brass service. Heaven.

This restaurant sounds wonderful. Has anyone been in Mombasa recently and eaten here?

Deducing from various advertising I saw in Kenya, Tamarind has a sister restaurant in Nairobi (meant to go there but didn't have the appetite) and is a sister of Carnivore.

We plan to spend a night in Mombasa on an upcoming trip. We want to spend a half day touring the city, and eat dinner at Tamarind. Can anyone recommend a hotel that would be convenient? We want to book our tour once at the hotel, and also book a car to drive us to Salt Lick the following day. We are looking for a good hotel, although don't need one of the beach hotels.
