WAJANG DOLL is an Indonesian place on Front Street in Phillipsburg. It is aways from the cruise ship pier so it is quite peaceful for a Phillipsburg restaurant. The tasting menue is called a RIJSTTAFEL and is rice accompanied by 15-20 different small dishes.
VERY GOOD!!!!! Best Rijsttafel I've had outside of Amsterdam.

On a side note, if they ask you if you would like your red wine chilled say YES! We had never heard of such a thing, but room temp on St. Maarten is much higher than room temp in Chicago. We tried our red and almost spit it out. The waiter came back w/an amused look on his face and we of course said, “could you chill this for us?”.

Le Mini Club serving French/Creole.
Very neat place, on the beach in downtown Marigot (Rue de la Liberte) but elevated amongst the palm trees (you walk up stairs to get in), almost like a restaurant tree house.

Usually buffets are not very chowhoundish, but the buffets on wed and sat were very good. With the buffets the Mini Club serves a good red house wine. Regular menu is good as well. We really liked the lobster souffle and the sweetbreads. Sometimes live music. a very enjoyable experience.

You will also see snack trucks/stands along the road while driving on the island, don’t be shy!, stop and find out what they have to eat. We had some terrific jerk chicken, goat stew and a general variety of grilled items. Very tasty and cheap.
