I have it on excellent authority that the Four Season's Maui will be closing it's fine Dining restaurant "Seasons" in mid-October and replacing it with the first Hawaiian Outpost of Wolfgang Pucks'famed "Spago" Restaurant. It is expected to be ready to open prior to the start of the heavy winter season(Mid-December).
I for one will miss Seasons as it is really the nicest place to dine on that side of the Island but have high hopes for Spago and it may be a very good fit for the 4 Seasons as a large % of their guests are from the LA area and quite familiar with the original Beverly Hills restaurant.

Just a quick update, I was talking to the poolside bartender and she said Spago will also be adding it's own bar to the space. Currently, Season's uses the lobby bar and a service bar to accomodate it's customers.

The latest update is that Spago will be opening officially December 15,2001. There will be a "opening night" fundraiser for the Maui Arts and Cultural Center on December 14, $75 a head for cocktails and pupus

Well it's open, I went to the fundraiser last night and it looked fantastic. The most dramatic element being the enormous close-ups of Sea Anemones on many of the ceilings and walls.
I can't comment on the food yet because they had only had passed pupus and the servers were mobbed everytime they left the kitchen so most people didn't get much to eat. They did have plentiful amounts of champagne, wine and Maitai's however.

I gather A Pacific Cafe in Kihei is closed. This hopefully will be a good replacement, though I bet the prices will be a lot higher.

I ate at the restaurant last night and the food was excellent, I had one of the best prepared racks of lamb I have ever eaten. My guests had the baked opakapaka and said it was prepared perfectly as well. Prices,as one might expect were among the highest in Maui (about the same as Nicks Fishhouse at the Kealani and Sarrento's although wine prices actually seemed lower than the other two)Service seemed a little slow-paced but that is to be expected of a kitchen that is only a little over a week old.
Wolfgang Puck was still in house, working the room as was a decidedly LA clientele (Lots of black clothing and Prada loafers).
