For Mexican, try Casa de Pico or Casa de Bandini in Old Town. Easily accessible right of I-5 or I-8 (I believe) plus the trolley stops right there too.

You might also try George's at the Cove in La Jolla for seafood... there are several other places on Prospect St. that might fit the bill as well.

I have to go to "Top of the Market" for seafood when I go to San Diego. My favorite appetizer is Duckett's Bucket (bucket of seafood in a great broth).

Ditto on the Casa de pico recommendation.

I personally have always loved Tio Leos (multiple locations) and you can never go wrong with any taco stand that ends in "o's"
Alberto's, Roberto's Umberto's ......
Just say these words and you'll be in heaven...."carne asada burrito with extra guac please"

Have a great day!!

As far as seafood goes, you may want to consider the Blue Point Coastal Cuisine in the Gaslamp Quarter.

So far I have eaten at 2 different Tio Leo's and you can get some really nice good food for 9-10 bucks. I dare you to eat it all. Four inches high and on a big platter. WOW!
