The Phantom Gourmet has called this the best deli outside of New York City. I'd have to disagree. I think it is the best deli anywhere, period. The menu is enormous, and they offer just about every type of food you could expect to see at a deli. They give complimentary half-sour pickles to each table. They are located just off exit 65 on Route 84, head toward Vernon Center when you get off the highway. I've had many of their dishes including the bagel with nova lox and cream cheese which is dynamite and huge; french toast on thick challuh bread; reuben fresser (a fresser is an overstuffed sandwich that literally is so big you can't fit it in your mouth). All were excellent. The only bad thing I had here was a bloody mary. It was from a mix, not from scratch, so they get points off for that. Otherwise, they are unbelievable. It's located about two blocks from the highway, so it is easy to get to. A great place to stop when traveling near Hartford. http://www.flyertalk.com/dining/ftdining_forum/thumbsup.gif http://www.flyertalk.com/dining/ftdining_forum/thumbsup.gif

I agree with hhnorman's positive review of Rein's. We have only visited twice, but each time we were awed by the quality of the sandwiches. There is no comparable deli in the greater Hartford area.

I've been eating at Rein's for something like 20 years everytime we do a trip through Hartford. If it's not a meal time, we get take out and enjoy it later. Love this place!
