Gandy Dancer (former Michigan Central train depot) for Sunday brunch

Jerusalem Garden - delicious middle eastern - homemade baba goonoush, tabouli, homus, etc.
(restaurant not fancy)

I would avoid the place next door to Jerusalem Garden, as patrons have to wash their own dishes!

Of course, Angelo's for breakfast
morning Fragel's on South University

Maize and Blue Delifor sandwiches (Mo's Mess was the BEST!)
The Brown Jug for a drink
The Lord Fox for a nice dinner (do they still have the chocolate paper bag?)

Stucchi's for ice cream

What's the name of the bar south of south U., in the basement, with pool and ten cent pitchers on Thursdays?

Thanks for the trip down memory lane!

I find the Gandy Dancer to be horrid.

My favorite restaurant in AA is Bella Ciao. Without a doubt it has the best food in AA and a nice atmosphere as well.

Well, Angelos cant be beat for breakfast, but I've never even heard of Lord Fox. Perhaps it's no longer there?

I think some things in AA tend to become institutions inspite of themselves. Stucchis is one of them. Their ice cream is nothing but mediocr. On state street there is a ben and jerrys practically next door to stucchis that I would pick any day. There is a home grown ice cream place downtown that is quite good, but I can't remember the name.

Despite having an enormous selection of Pizza places and coffee houses, it is difficult to find a good cup of a coffee or a decent pizza. Starbucks (now on state street) serves better coffee than any of the local places. There is a great gourmet pizza place called Anthony's in the georgetown shopping center.

For Delis, it's really impossible to beat Zingermans, but their prices are outrageous.

For mexican food, the only real option currently in AA is sabor latino. The enchiladas are quite good.

Shalimar is my favorite for Indian and Miki for sushi, though there is another relatively new sushi place downtown that I didn't get a chance to try before leaving AA.

Lord Fox is on Plymouth Rd.

I think there may be two of these? I remember a dessert - a lunch-bag-sized chocolate bag, filled with layers of sponge cake, razberry sauce, chocolate, cream, etc. 15 years and I still remember that dessert.

When I was there, there was no Ben & Jerry's (or starbuck's, for that matter.)

One thing I loved about AA was that, despite its small size, there always seemed to be something new to discover.

Isn't there a huge good deli in Ann Arbor that has a name that begins w/a Z?

Zingerman’s deli was mentioned as one of Saveur Magazine’s 100 best in their Jan/Feb 2003 issue. Mentions that there are free samples of anything you wish.

Zingerman's is definitely great, but expensive for a deli (by Midwest standards).
My favorite restaurant in town though is West End Grill. Steaks/etc. with asian accents. Prices are reasonable at about $20/entree. Atmosphere is also nice.

Go to GoDaiko for the Great Sushi and stay for the fun. Sushi Chef and Owner Paul will hook you up with creative Sushi specials and authentic Kaiseki meals.

One memorable evening brought us a soup that still brings a tear to my eye. Picture a snow covered, fire capped volcanoe erupting out of a stormy sea and you can begin to visualize the culinary treat before us. Basic Fish stock swimming with smoked salmon skin, underneath a fluffy pile of rice, filled with assorted colored seaweeds and topped with salmon roe. Proper technique is needed to get the entire sensation of the soup. One must drive his/her soup spoon from top to bottom and pop the various portions into one's mouth for the ultimate in taste explosions.

Enjoy the friendly banter around the sushi bar, drink a Kirin or Sapporo or two and experience the Wah!

Godaiko, for sushi, is wonderful. I eat there about once a week (it is very close to my home). I also like Yotsuba just off 23 and Washtenaw for sushi.

I like The Real Seafood Company for its baked, stuffed lobster and La Dolce Vita )(across the street) for the amazing desserts.

I have to agree about Shalimar for Indian food, it is very good. I used to be a fan of Raja Rani but they changed owners and are not the same.

I also like Champion House for the reasonably priced Teppan Grill.

I have to agree about Zingerman's prices we have never gotten out of there for less than $40.00 for three and one of us is a child.

I like The Earle for special ocaissions although my new favorite is The Chop House for the flavorful meat and good sides.

Mexican food is not that wonderful here and I have to be pretty desperate to order it. When I do I go to Tio's but that is reluctantly.

One of my new favorite sandwich places is called The Origanal 60's, in the same strip mall as Godaiko. The number 21, Steak in the Grass is excellent.

There is a very good Ethiopean restaurant - the Blue Nile - near the university - can't remember the address but I'm sure it can be discerned if you are interested. They offer an all-you-care-to-eat dinner about $10 for vegetarian and $14 including meat. I had the meat option which includes about 15 dishes on a giant injera bread and then you can get seconds of the dishes you most enjoyed.
