My wife and I enjoyed a lovely late autumn dinner in the early American atmosphere of the Stockton Inn, Route 29, Stockton, NJ. This historic inn features classic American cuisine served in front of roaring fires in a number of small dining rooms with wood-plank floors. The food was tasty, spiced (and spiked) cider memorable, and service enthusiastic, if a bit unevenly paced (entrees came while we were one-third through our salads). The Stockton Inn is a very few miles up the Delaware River from Lambertville, NJ, and New Hope, PA. Staff invited us to make an outdoor reservation in the garden next summer.
