Just got back from a few days in Singapore and I have to say I love BreadTalk. It's a small chain selling about 30 or 40 kinds of small breads, some sweet, some savory.

I hope they spread to the US. Downside was I kept eating so much bread that I wasn't hungry for dinner (not that it stopped me!).

carlhaynes,

When I was in SIN back in May I too took in some yummy bread creations at Breadtalk, the store on Orchard. I was going to write a post about it but thought that no one would be interested, so I'm glad to see that others appreciated the shop, it's worth a visit.

Ah ! What memories. But I do get some good variety here in NYC at the farmers market, with a couple of folks from upstate bringing various home-baked breads.

It's interesting how the Orchard location now housing Breadtalk has morphed over time.

Not that long ago it was part of the now smaller Haagen Dazs space; then the not much lamented Cinnabon. I sometimes wish they'd improve the "seating" in the area.

akhullar - if you like the breads from NYC farmer's markets, then BreadTalk isn't for you. Though there are some local breads & confections (melon pan, an pan) that I enjoy, I find them overall too sweet and too soft. I prefer my bread with some heft and texture. I guess I'm of the European bread style - country breads, multi-grains etc. The stuff in BreakTalk just seems like empty calories.

Other places to try is St. Leaven in the basement of Takashimaya and Panderia in Paragon Marketplace.

Hey thanks for the heads up. I am in SIN next month and I'll give it a whirl and report back.
