View Full Version : Gary Danko is overrated

I saw some comments praising Gary Danko. I found it very disappointing. Even though we had a reservation, we had to wait 45 minutes for a table. Our waiter kept changing; we would have one for a spell, we request an item, and he disappears and another waiter took over. Having multiple ones wait on us would normally be nice, but each one seem to disappear afer we made a request. So we had to keep asking a new waiter for the same thing. The meal was nothing special - okay but nothing out of the ordinary. They have a cheese cart, and while we did not partake, we noticed they were very miserly in the number and amounts of cheese slices they give people - a very sharp contrast to the Michelin starred restaurants in Europe. We had the souffle - very good, but that was it. It struck as a pretentious place, very "in", that people went to because it is suppose to be cool; it has pretentions of being a Michelin type restaurant (if the USA had a Michelin guide book) and extremely overrated. Much better food and value places include Sam`s (fish) and Pane e Vino (Italian).

I'm sorry you had a bad experience at Gary Danko, m. I can only say I've never been less than delighted there.

Residing on the opposite coast, and always feeling the need to try something new when I'm in SF, I've only been there a few times, but I've found it hyperdelicious each of those times.
