The new In & Out Burger in San Francisco is nearly completed and is located in"The Anchorage" shops in the Fisherman's Wharf area of The City (Jefferson near Leavenworth).

I walked by the site this morning and it looks like quite an architechtural departure from the normal In&Outs. (As far as I know this is the only one of it's kind as all the rest are stand alone buildings).

A sign outside the worksite said they would hold interviews for jobs August 14 & 15 and I spoke with one of the workman who said they hope to open in early September.

I just thought I would keep all the In & Out afficionados informed.

What's the story with In & Out? Please dispel my east coast ignorance!

East Coaster, think Krispy Kremes, it's the same type of envy.

Wildly overrated, IMHO. So is Krispy Kreme.

In & Out is a hamburger chain that started in Baldwin Park back in the 40's or 50's. It was a drive through that served nothing but burgers.

Until the early 90's they were only in the LA area, but they have expanded to Northern Calif, Vegas, Arizona, and who knows where else.

I love the burgers- some people don't see what all the fuss is about. They aren't big (not White Castle small, just about the size of a Big Mac- it simply tastes a heck of alot better).

The shakes are great... the fries; you either love 'em or you hate 'em. Simply put, it is a cheap, greasy, tasty burger.

Hope this helps, Kevin

Dropped by the new In and Out outlet at Fisherman's Wharf last weekend, a total madhouse, as expected. While the burger was worth the trip, the volume of tourists will keep me from visiting this store in the future. The outlet in Marin, just a short hop over the bridge is a better bet to avoid the lengthy lines at the SF restaurant.

On my last trip to Europe- I was flying back in Upper Class on Virgin Atlantic (LHR to LAX) and noticed that it seemed as though everyone in the UC cabin was wearing "IN & OUT" polo shirts and hats.

I told my row-mate that I was looking forward to enjoying a "Double-Double" on the way home - as I didn't eat hardly any meat in the U.K. on my trip. I asked if what the connection was - he told me that every store manager that hit their annual quota was given a 10 day tour of England and Ireland for 2 with first class transportation and accomodations. I thought that was very impressive. Its a first class company in every sense - it treats its employees well and serves a high-quality product.
