Punki asked me for Paris hotel advice (she must be at an exhibition at the Palais des Contrès in Paris). Here is what I wrote Punki:
But my personal favorite is luxury place outside downtown Paris with a reasonable price (I last stayed there in early june 2000 with PremEx for 3 nights):

The 'La Forestiere' (connected with the wonderful Restaurant in the garden: Cazaudehors). Owners of the hotel and Restaurant is the Cazaudehors family,
Location: in St-Germain-en-Laye with direct RER-line to La Defense, Palais des Congres de Paris (that's probably the place where the exhibition is?), Etoile/Champs-Elysees, Chatelet-Les Halles (distance: about 17 minutes by RER to Etoile, about 13 minutes to Palais des Congres)
disadvantages:
* the luxurious hotel is NOT in walking distance form the RER station and no public transportation is available (we did have our car and had no problem to find a parking space daily right under the ST-Germain RER station. Distance RER (center of St. Germain and hotel about 3 km = 2 miles). Always
plenty of taxis availble at the RER (until very late/early).
* the taxi from downtown Paris would be costly; to avoid these costs you would either need your own car (parking and traffic problems in Paris) or take the last RER just before midnight.
* no miles (they are members of the prestigious 'Relais et Châteaux', but no miles nevertheless. Only about 4 fitfh of all Relais et Châteaux members give UA miles)
* not in walking distance of any shops
advantages:
* historic (royal) St.Germain-en Laye is beautiful to walk around and shop too
* charming residence, nestling amidst rose gardens and forest groves
* enjoy lunch beneath the scented arbours and/or dine beside a log fire
* real luxury (historic tradional from the outside, modern chic inside) and reasonable space and price, free parking
* absolute quiete nights (no traffic noise)
* the best air you can breath around Paris (located in the corner of the St-Germain woods)
* you have easy access to the Palis des Congres (exhibition place?) without having to partially cross through Paris (a big advantage if there is a strike)
* after a real nice dinner and wine(s) you can right-away 'sink' into your bed (only a 30 second walk through the rose-gardens ...).

I guess for a very comfortable (total of 25) room (2 persons) you will have
to calculate about FFr 1'200 (tip/tax included, breakfast not included) (FFr
1'300 = US 195.
They have 5 appartements too (FR 1'600 maximum only))
