Chinoiserie, 509 Fourth Street (just north of intersection of 4th/Linden), Wilmette. 847.256.0306 Hours: Tues-Thurs 4:30-10pm, Fri-Sun 4:30-9pm. Reservations recommeded for Fri-Sun dining.

If coming from the City and public transportation can be used, Chinoiserie is only a few doors north of the Linden stop on the purple line of the "EL" (Linden is the last northerly stop on the purple line).

Chinoiserie proclaims itself as "nouvelle Chinese cuisine" but they serve more than that.

Wow, I have not been disappointed w/ any of the dishes here. Average entrée price is $10-14. I'm not touting Chinoiserie as a knock out, but rather as a very good restaurant that serves a consistent high
quality for a good price (especially Wilmette)

Dishes I've been pleased with include:
Chicken Normandy: with Asian Apple pears in a light Calvados reduction.
Chinoiserie Chicken: lightly battered chicken in a sweet garlic sauce
Northern Pike fillet in Black Bean Sauce
Chinoiserie Shrimp
Japanese Baby Eggplant: sautéed eggplant in sweet Asian sauce
Mongolian Steak
Drambuie beef w/Orange Glaze

Chinoiserie offers take-out and catering.

parents were leaving on a trip today, Pop hates to see food go to waste so we got their Chinoiserie leftover Chicken Normandy and Chinoiserie Chicken.

MMMMM still good, Great chow!

Chinoiserie chicken and shrimp did not live up to it's image of greatness in my mind. Other dishes were stellar, restaurant is still BYOB and is 50 yards from the most northerly stop on the El purple line.

I went to Chinnoiserie about four years ago and found it rather uneven. But my hometown of Wilmette is a food wasteland other than Walker Brothers, so if I still lived up that way I'd probably go a few times/year when I didn't want to drive into Evanston and fight for parking.

This has long been a favorite of mine, but it can be hit and miss at times. To call the chef eccentric would be an understatement. He's been known to send orders back if he feels the order does not have a good balance of sweet and spicy. When he's off, the food is okay, but when he's on, it's fantastic. I adore the light sweetness of the Chinoiserie Shrimp or Chicken. The Mongolian Steak and Drambuie Beef are all very good. I don't like crab, but my friends all rave about the crab pockets (appetizer).

From what I've noticed, the quality has waned a little since they expanded a few years back. They used to have a single storefront with only seven tables (what is now the left side of the dining room was the entire place before). Now they have two and have more than tripled their dining space. It went from a place where it was impossible to get a table on the weekend to one that's pretty easy now.

All that said, I highly recommend the place.

well said, the dishes while very enjoyable do go from ok (still good compared to surroundings) to great, so it is still a place I go to when in the area.
