We had dinner tonight at Printer’s Row restaurant, located in the Printer’s Row section of Chicago (huh, who would have guessed?!?) which for non-Chicagoans is just south of the Loop. See: http://printers-row.com/ for lunch/dinner hours, directions and menus.

We have dined here before and the food is very good, although each time we have been back over the years, quality seems to have slipped just a notch. We used to have a hard time deciding what to eat from the menu, but now it is pretty quick to narrow down.
Anyways, onto the meal.

I started out w/a chilled peach soup w/julienne duck proscuitto (sp?). Tasty.
Wife had a smoked salmon w/capers onions and egg (LOX http://www.flyertalk.com/dining/ftdining_forum/wink.gif ) but great flavor none the less.

We then split the Printer’s Row salad: mixed seasonal greens, pineapple cracked pepper vinaigrette with basil fried oysters. VERY Mediocre http://www.flyertalk.com/dining/ftdining_forum/frown.gif

For a main course I had the venison loin, considered their house specialty. It was served w/braised red cabbage, sautéed spinach, and spaetzle in a juniper berry reduction. Very good, but I’m rarely disappointed w/venison.

The highlight of the evening was the Gingered Tuna, an incredible dish consisting of sushi grade tuna w/sweet bokchoy, wasabi sticky rice, chile citrus dressing. This dish was outstanding.

To cap off the evening, I had the trio of cheeses and fruit. The cheeses consisted of Castelmagno, Camembert and St. Marcellin. The Castelmango was my fave.

With the meal we had a bottle of cabernet sauvignon from Firestone. Not to much tannin, very good with our meal.

Thanks, Willie you take me back to the day when I was there

We always used to debate between printers row and prarie crossing. Not sure if the latter is there, but they were certainly two of the neat restaurants in Chicagoland back in the mid-90's when we were there. back then, getting "game" for dinner was unusual.

However, since my wife is from Northern Wisconsin, and her father is a major league hunter/fisherman we always would have true game at their house (e.g fish, pheasant, deer, and so forth) These restaurants did a great job of replicating the home taste. Well, except for the deer hanging from the rafters in the garage. http://www.flyertalk.com/dining/ftdining_forum/smile.gif

I am glad to hear that the food was still good. Thanks for the report!
