I don't order fried anything anymore really, maybe fries or calamari, and a really once in awhile is fried oysters/shrimp on a po' boy.

The other night on a motorcycle "just ride and get lost" night, a buddy of mine suggested we grab a couple of beers and then go to Joe's Goose Island Shrimp for some great fried shrimp. "Fried?!?!" I thought, oh well it was his turn to "lead" for the night so I followed suit.

Remember how great fried shrimp were as a kid? Man I used to just eat them up. I've found shrimp that good again!

Joe's Goose Island Shrimp is located 1013 W. Division in Chicago. JGIS is two blocks east of the Kennedy and two blocs west of the lovely Cabrini O' Green housing projects. Usually open until 3am, a definite late night haunt. phone: 312.642.3640

Make sure you get a bag of the Jumbos. Huge and sweet with the greatest breading.

Sitting on the cement breakwater near North Avenue beach, 75 degree night, drinking a cold beer, viewing the city in all its nighttime skyline splendor and munching on these great fried shrimp. Wow.

Joe's son has opened his own Joe's Goose Island Shrimp in Rockford. Located 3015 N. Rockton, Usually open until 11pm, phone: 815.987.0406

Joe's son has mastered his father's quality and I have been back to both and each time the shrimp live up to my own self created hype.

Thanks for the review, I live fairly close to there, and have always wondered what it is like. Being so close to the soon to be gentrified projects, I was always a bit apprehensive, but I will give it a try.

took Addison out of the City today after the Cubs game.

Stopped by Frank's Chicago Shrimp House at 5439 W. Addison. Franks has locations at Archer & Kedzie, 6539 w. 79th, 9745 w. Franklin.

NOT Good WAY too much breading and the shrimp tasted old, stick with Joe's.

BTW, just for the time being, Joes of Rockford is closed due to major construction on the street where it is located.

Drove by the place yesterday AM (too early for fried shrimp :) ). Place looks like a dive, would never consider going in if not for this thread. I'll have to give it a try the next time I am in the neighborhood around lunch or dinner. Do you think they bread their own shrimp?

Know they do, have viewed the process. Get the Jumbos.

Oysters are also very good (and fresh)

Used to reside in Lincoln Park back in '01-'03 (Fullerton at the Lake), and I will be the first to admit that Chi-Town has some of the best restaurants in the country...but seafood...I give it a C+ at best. Its just too far to provide good seafood on a CONSISTANT basis.

For my $0.02 worth, I think La Fleur's In Kerrville, TX has the best Fried Shrimp in the world.
