One of our job sites was on the far south side of Evanston. So I went exploring on Peterson Ave for dining places.
Came across Rancho Luna Cuban Cuisine. located 3357 W. Peterson (Peterson & Kimball)
77.509.9332.
Black bean soup was outstanding! So were the cuban sandwiches, best I've had in Chicago so far (very garlicky).
Good priced lunch specials on typical Cuban fare.

Thanks, Sweet Willie, for recommending the Rancho Luna.
Although we go to Chicago three or four times a year, we had never been to Skokie.
Last weekend, we went to Evanston to pick up our teenage son who was taking a summer class. We went to Evanston a day early to help him pack. I had read your review and decided to try the Rancho Luna. We were most pleasantly surprised by the decor and the food.
In fact, we liked the food so much that we returned the next day with our son and had another wonderful meal. My favorite was the #10 combination appetizer plate - more than enough for a full meal.
By the way, Fogo de Chao is now open in Chicago. We had been to one in Atlanta and it is THE place for carnivores.
Does anyone have any thoughts on Tango Sur? We would like to try that restaurant on our next trip.

Chicago was not listed on the Fogo de Chao website. http://www.fogodechao.com/

I had emailed Fogo and was told that the Chicago site opened on August 12 on LaSalle Street. We didn't go there on our recent trip because it is not open for lunch on weekends. (Edited to clarify that Fogo is open for lunch during the week days.)
Lunch and dinner consist of the same menu, except that dinner cost substantially more. In addition, lunch gives me a chance to work off the calories. http://www.flyertalk.com/dining/ftdining_forum/smile.gif
