I recently had fries from a place called Hot Doug's on Roscoe, just east of Western Avenue. Roscoe is a few blocks south of Addison Ave. TO NOTE, there was a fire and Hot Doug's is no longer located on Roscoe, Hot Doug's is now located at 3324 North California, Chicago, IL 60618 Phone: (773) 279-9550
On fridays and saturdays from 1:30pm until 4pm (closing), Hot Doug's can prepare fries that have been fried in duck fat. You have to ask for them or else you will get the regular fries (which are good as well).
While it is not the experience of walking along a canal in Amsterdam eating your fries, they were tasty.

Doug Sohn, owner of the recently burned down Hot Doug’s (2314 W. Roscoe St.; 773-348-0326), still wants to reopen as soon as possible in the original spot. Per Sohn: “The landlord is currently working on the rehab, but I’m also seeking new locations as well.”
Between Hot Doug's duck fat french fries & Memphis' Dyer's deep fried hamburgers in 90+ year old grease ...... what can I say? I hope there is a cardiologist in the house ...

Hot Doug's is now open, but they've moved just down the street from their original location. Doug now puts his specials up weekly: http://hotdougs.com/specials.htm

Group consensus was that the duck fat fries were slightly better than the regular fries but not worth the increased cost.
The various sausages were quite tasty:
I had a garlic pork sausage w/swiss cheese spread and sauteed garlic, Judi has a duck sausage w/foie gras bits and a Calvados sauce.

Hot Doug's was just mentioned in Chicago Magazine's recent article "The 124 Best Dishes". The dish mentioned was Pheasant Hot Dog - goji berry pheasant sausage served on a bun with jerk mayo and cheese stuffed sweet peppers.
