According to a piece in the Business section of the Honolulu Advertiser 7/10/01, Northwest Airlines Corp is bidding on the new slots that will open at Narita due to a 50% increase in capacity at the airport with the construction of a new runway, the first since 1978.

Northwest is currently the second largest tenant at NRT, behind only JAL, and wants the slots to expand it's international operations. Rivals for the slots include: JAL, ANA, and AA according to the piece.

I'll bet we're going to see a lot of new routes being serviced! The extra runway should make it feasible for narrow-bodied operations to smaller markets.

I think that NW will be moving to satellite 3 after it's finished.

There's a map of what terminal 1 will look like. Look under "Facilities".
