I hope someone´s around to answer this one:

I´m flying QF on a Thursday SYD-MEL arriving at 23:40. My mom and sister are flying Ansett arriving five minutes later at 23:45.

What´s the most logical way to meet up? We´ll have one large bag to check. Should I check it in on QF, or should they check it in on AN?

PS I have never been to OZ before if that makes a difference.

It doesn't really matter who checks the bag..but whoever does so should stay put and get the others to walk over from the other terminal; it's only a few minutes and under cover all the way. It's easy to get a taxi from either terminal.

Thanks for the quick response.

Our relatives will be picking us up but they've only seen my mom and my sister before, so I'm inclined we agree to meet at the Ansett terminal so they can find them (this way I can also use my 5-minute advantage to get over there http://www.flyertalk.com/airports/ftairports_forum/smile.gif ).

Should we meet at the gate or at luggage claim, or is that airside even for domestic?

Meet at luggage claim..much easier than going to the gate.

Thanks for the advice.

So they check in the bags on Ansett. I arrive and go to luggage claim to meet up with them. I assume the belt# is listed on monitors?

That means domestic Ansett luggage claim isn't a pax only area, right?

PS RichardMEL - thanks for the info.

Just go to AN baggage claim, and there's a meeting point sign (IIRC). Also it is small enough to find your relatives there if you need to. But yes, the belt numbers for flights are displayed on an arrival monitor of course.

(edited to fix the reference to what I saw in the above)
