Hi,
After returning from my Taipei Mileage run to San Jose, I have a 9 hour layover till my flight home to DFW via Sea & ORD.
Does anyone have any suggests about any public shower facilites or Day Rooms for a reasonable ($30) price? I would truly appreciate your suggestions.
Of course, I could just fly staight to DFW, but that would defeat part of the "fun" of a mileage run!
Thanks,
Blancine

I don't know of any facilities in SJC, but SFO has public showers available in the international terminal. Go to the north side of the international terminal and look for the hair salon. The hair salon has showers available. I don't know the prices. You can, by the way, get from SJC to SFO via public transit. If you are interested, post back and I'll describe.
Finding a reasonable rate room in Silicon valley is slightly easier than before, but still difficult. Your best bet might be to check with an athletic club (if you are a member of a national athletic club) or with the airline club of your choice. Or, if the compnay you work for has an office in San Jose, many of the companies in this area have shower facilities in their buildings.

Getting from SJC to SFO via public transit is fairly easy. There is a major train route between them, with little shuttles to connect the airport with the train station.
1) At SJC terminal C (AA terminal), find the Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) line #10 (also known as the San Jose Airport Flyer). It is located just to the left of the departing passenger dropoff. Line 10 goes between the VTA light rail and the Santa Clara Caltrain station. Take Line 10 towards the Santa Clara Caltrain station. (For more information, see http://www.vta.org)
Travel time approximately 10 minutes.
Shuttles run every 10 minutes on weekdays, every 15 minutes on weekends.
One way fare $1.25
2) At Caltrain, take the Caltrain north (toward San Francisco) to the Millbrae station. (For more information, see http://www.caltrain.org/caltrain/index.html)
Travel time approximately one hour.
Trains run at least every half hour until 8PM.
One way fare $4. Purchase the ticket at the station to avoid a $1 fee for purchasing on the train.
3) At the Millbrae station, walk across the parking lot to the street to find the SFO airport shuttle. The free shuttle meets every weekday train at the Millbrae Caltrain Station. Shuttles operate every 20 minutes on weekends and holidays. Saturday service begins at 7 a.m. at SFO. Sunday/Holiday service begins at 8 a.m. (For more shuttle information, call 1.800.720-6661 or visit http://www.caltrain.org/caltrain/index.html).
Travel time approximately ten minutes.
Shuttle runs at least every 20 minutes.
One way fare - free!
Hope that helps. Returning is just the opposite. SFO Shuttle, Caltrain from Millbrae south to Santa Clara, then Line 10 to SJC.

I thought the Airport Flyer #10 was free on any part of the route. It runs from the light rail to the Santa Clara Caltrain stopping at the airport and parking lots in between.

SFOJFK,
I think you are right. Line #10 is a free service. My bad. http://www.flyertalk.com/airports/ftairports_forum/redface.gif

Many months later and obviously too take for the original poster. However, if you want a shower and some rest why not get a hotel room at SJC using priceline. http://www.biddingfortravel.com will give you a good idea of what price you can get things for. At SFO my parents got the Westin (a 3* hotel) for a few dollar over $30. Well worth it even if you're not spending the night.
