How are the check in and security lines at SFO these days ? I am flying UAL on Saturday morning and I will check a bike in a box including parts and tools... and I'd hate to unpack it all right there....

Well - let me answer my own question: got to SFO at 7.45 am for 11.15 flight. I had a bike in a hardshell case with me and a suitcase. Tried to check in at *Gold line (4 people in line) but was sent to oversized luggage. No wait there - did not have to open my bike box (I expected to have to open everything up that's why I was 3 hours early). Total check in time 10 minutes.
Security line snaked through terminal but VERY fast and efficient. maybe 100 people in line - took less than 20 minutes. So now I am sitting around... :-) better safe than sorry.
I talked to other people and everybody said that today was empty...

This was the United terminal on Saturday morning, 8am.
