My wife is flying into SEA Thursday and then has to drive north to the Everett area. Her niece told her just to take I-5, but looking at the map, would it be better to take I-405 instead? The destination is just north of where I-405 reconnects with I-5. Any traffic considerations. Would be traveling around 12:30 p.m. Thanks!
Mid-day you should be fine with either route, but I-5 is the shorter route. As you exit the airport (just before you cross teh bridge into the parking garage), there are video monitors that have current traffic views, so you can check those to see if there's any weird backups.

At a little after noon everything should be hunky-dory! Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I think the afternoon shift at Boeing in Everett gets out at 2:45-3p (FYI)

I5 is better (unless of course the traffic monitors indicate a problem)
By 12:30 the I5 express lanes should be going northbound, so there should be no problem with I5.

Edited to insert a "no" which I forgot the first time, making my post make no sense at all...

Thanks for the help friends!! What are the "express lanes?" How are they accessed?
The express lanes are reversible for morning and afternoon rush hour and start/end in downtown Seattle -- there's a left exit for them just before the downtown exits. Signs will indicate whether they're open or not (and they'll also be blocked off if they're closed). Since you're going all the way to Everett, the express lanes are a good choice (run parallel to I-5 with fewer exits).

Thanks, KC. I'll be up in Seattle myself Sat. night. (Had to wait to fly and catch up with the rest of the family!)
