Is this the kind of list that any city would really want to top.
Being a busy airport is good. However, running an efficient airport in a pleasant atmosphere is even better.
I'm not complaining. I like O'Hare. I just don't like it when it gets insanely busy.

This is just my experience but being in different airports in the past months, I observed that at least during the times and dates when I was in ORD, it sometimes had long security lines but they moved fast compared to the other airports. I think it is good considering that is "the busiest" airport.
What about the busiest one in term of passengers? Did ORD also reclaim that?

Yes, it got the most flight operations as well as most passengers as it rightfully deserves. It is surprising though since UA and AA have hubs at ORD and have been most hurt by sept 11, while Delta was the least hurt out of the big airlines. Just wait after about 15 years when it's finished with its upcoming massive growth spurt, that will be awesome.
