Had posted this info in a Mileage Run thread, but this forum is where it really belongs.
Commuters will soon be able to ride the train all the way to the airport on the new 6-km-long MRT extension line. The Straits Times understands that the new station could open in the next few days.
Good post, I had wondered about when it would open after another FT mentioned it was being built.
The fare of $1.80SD one way seems VERY reasonable.
I wish the article had listed the hours of the train service. I'll use it if it is running when that UA flight gets in from NRT http://www.flyertalk.com/airports/ftairports_forum/smile.gif

The MRT to Changi will open tomorrow (Feb 8 SIN time). The last train departing the airport is said to be at 11:18pm which I think is about the time the UA flight gets in?

The UA flight from NRT arrives SIN at 11:45pm according to my April flight schedule, too late which is what I was afraid of.
No word in the article on the first train in the AM travelling to the airport.

I've been to/through SIN on the order of a hundred times, but never on UA... mostly mid-afternoon/evening flights on TG or SQ. So, it looks like I'm all set http://www.flyertalk.com/airports/ftairports_forum/smile.gif

Wonder if the Straits Times is monitoring FT? http://www.flyertalk.com/airports/ftairports_forum/smile.gif Ask a question, and the answer is in the next story. First train about 5:30am:
The first train in the morning leaves too late to get to the UA 7am flight.

Thanks for the info. I hope you did not find this out the hard way and miss your UA 7am flight! http://www.flyertalk.com/airports/ftairports_forum/smile.gif

It appears the Stratis Times articles linked above have been archived. Here is information from the www.friendsofchangi.com (http://www.friendsofchangi.com) site
Changi Airport's New MRT Station
Travelling around Singapore has never been easier. Completed in February 2002, the six-km Changi Airport MRT extension now provides passengers with greater convenience and accessibility. From Changi Airport to the city centre, all it takes is a 27-minute ride. With its affordable fares, it is one of the more economical ways to get from the city to the airport and back. ... It is situated underground between Terminal 2 and the future Terminal 3. ... The train service from the Changi Airport station operates at an average frequency of 12 minutes from 5.31 am to 0.03 am.

Heard that the train will only get to Terminal 2 which is not the main Terminal 1 that caters for international travel.
Is that right?

</font>Does that mean that T1 caters mainly to domestic Singapore flights http://www.flyertalk.com/airports/ftairports_forum/wink.gif

By the way Seletar Airport is used for private jets and it is not near Changi Airport. Singapore is a small island and therefore there isn't any domestic flights here. So terminal 1,2 and the future terminal 3 are for international flights. The MRT station is situated in between terminal 2 and 3. If you landed in Terminal 1, just take the skytrain to Terminal 2 and just a short walk you reached the MRT station. Enjoy your stay !!
