> Yes. And, taxi drivers' incomes were already down because 1) fewer customers due to the recession (Singapore officially went into recession a few months before the US), and 2) more taxi drivers due to layoffs from other jobs.

The MRT service will be located in between termianl 2 and 3. To get to the MRT from terminal 1 just take the skytrain. Enjoy your ride !
