november-4-2001: JFK terminal 1 (Lufthansa, Singapore, Air France, Alitalia, Korean, Austrian).

Gisela ,before flying home together with me (LH JFK-FRA-ZRH), writes some t'last minute' hank you letters to our hosts in the USA, but at the end, she only finds closed/blocked letter-boxes all over the terminal 1and not one airline employee willing to post her letter.

Rudy:
I tried to mail a letter from Terminal 1 at JFK on Sept. 27 (flight with Austrian to Vienna). At that time all mailboxes were sealed off.

I talked to some security guy. He suggested to take the free Port Authority Airport bus (local route) to the JFK US mail center, where you are still be able to deposit mail. However, since my flight was close, and the ride would have taken at least 15 minutes each way, I did not consider this possiblity.

I was very lucky to find the nice LH agent who checked me on the Austrian flight. She was very helpful and, after I explained my situation, she offered to forward my letter to the LH ground staff secretary for forwarding. She explicitly mentioned that they are not allowed to accept mail from passengers, but she was quite happy to help. After my return, I figured out that the letter was really sent out in time. Many thanks to that agent.
