I'll be stopping one midweek night at LHR in September en-route to SFO, the hotels all seem pretty expensive, can anyone give any tips on how to stay at a decent one without breaking the bank?

When choosing a hotel / parking deal from any UK airport, I always use ABC holiday extras - they seem to have great deals.

Good luck

Nick,
What are you doing off the VS board? Thanks for your help, I have to decide whether to pay Midland Mainlines high morning prices or try and get a hotel deal before my VS flight to SFO.
I checked out ABC and most of the decent hotels are 100+, I did have a bit of a dabble with priceline and you could get a 3* for around 65gbp, it did say I was unlikely to get a 4* for that money but who knows. Hotel prices in general are pretty high in London, although a little better at weekends.
I'll keep surfing around as I'm not going until Sept 12th. Rgds Gus

earlier this year I got a great deal that included car parking at the Crowne Plaza at LHR. I guess it is just pot luck.
I am off to Boston in Nov (with VS!!), but it is an afternoon flight so I won't have to worry about a hotel at LGW as Midland Mainline do a great 'Foresite' <sp?> deal.

Stayed at Le Meridien at LHR three weeks ago for GBP55. Looks a little disappointing and tired from the outside, but the rooms are really good value at 55.00.

The Rennaissance is good, close to LHR for plane viewing, also some cheaper ones like Quality Inn, Posthouse, etc. When you land at LHR, go to the tourist info desk and they can help you, as sometimes you pick up a good deal at the last minute, and LHR has many nice hotels to choose from, just beware of the Hoppa.
