Earlier this week I phoned the LAX Airport police and the LAPD Airport substation, which are two separate organizations that mostly work together. Their story was consistent: any turning away of pedestrians had been purely erroneous. So when my work commitments put me far behind schedule Thursday afternoon, I gave walking in a try. The checkpoint at Century and Sepulveda was gone. So I showed my ID and itinerary at the police stationed at Park One's south entrance, but they said they didn't even need to see it. They just let me in!

Can confirm that. There was no checkpoint today, I just walked over from ParkOne to T1.

This might actually be the most convenient way to get to Terminals 1-3 (mabe even Int'l Terminal). The walk from ParkOne to T1 is 2 min.; to T3 it's no more than 10 min. Without luggage it's very easy. With luggage, take their shuttle. Today, ParkOne was fairly quiet, no waits for the shuttles (5 passengers in our shuttle). To drop off or pick up passengers, this is also very convenient, the hourly rate is $3.
