I heard no cars are allowed into the airport complex and that you must meet people at one of the remote parking lots via the airport parking shuttles.
I fly into LAX from Dublin this coming Friday.. What should I expect as far as getting picked up from the airport?

I would advise against being picked up---it's a real mess. Take a shuttle to a hotel or a taxi. See my post in Trip Reports. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/Forum81/HTML/002142.html

Yes, taxi service at LAX is great. Dispatchers with electronic communicators call cabs from a central pool. It's very efficient.

Now LAX has announced an additional passenger drop-off area at the intersection of Airport and Arbor Vitae. No parking is allowed there so it may be faster.
Cars with handicapped placards or license plates ARE permitted into the airport.

What about "Black Car" services. I regularly use one from the San Fernando Valley. Any idea if they will be treated like cabs?

Saw a limo - displaying its TCP # on the bumper - today in the LAX concourse. It appears they are treated like taxis.

I'm hearing conflicting reports re checking in at United/LAX. Do you have to get your boarding pass at the ticket counter before security, or can you go through security with your faxed itinerary and check in at the Red Carper Club or 1K lounge.
Any info appreciated as I'm flying later this week. Thanks.

Has LAX police or LAX operations advised WHY no cars are allowed into the central area?
Not being a pain - I understand why the initial concern, but just wondering why other airports with similar layouts are allowing cars. Just worried at the amount of inconcistency is still out there from airport to airport.
The biggest threat seems to be the open/exposed areas near T2 and TBIT (where you can see aircraft?
Anyone know the full story?

I saw on the LAX website that you can part in lots B and C (these are apparently located outside the main airport complex), and they take a courtesy shuttle to the main areas. Im thinking of having my GF wait for me there, does anybody know if this is feasible?

According to Los Angeles World Airports, the "official" location for picking up arriving passengers is Lot B, located at 111th Street and Aviation Boulevard, east of LAX and South of Century Boulevard. Arriving passengers are shuttled there; wait under the blue LAX shuttle signs. Your ride can park and wait for your arrival at Lot B.

From the Los Angeles Times, 18 September 2001:
"Top managers of LAX said the ban on private cars, a more stringent precaution than at many other airports, is necessary because the facility has been specifically targeted for past terrorist attacks. In addition, the Federal Aviation Administration has ordered a 'safe zone' roughly a football field wide where private vehicles are not allowed to park.
"With the safe zone in place, 7,000 short-term parking places near terminals must be closed. That's about half the total inventory of all parking near the terminals--leaving airport drivers with few options but to double and triple park at the curb.
"Airport managers, including Executive Director Lydia Kennard, believed that a flood of private vehicles with few places to park could gridlock the loop road. That, in turn, could make it impossible for emergency vehicles to navigate around the airport, exposing the public to additional risk."

Gaucho, it's certainly possible but it will be a zoo. Perhaps meeting at a local hotel would be easier.
