ZRH still seems to have huge problems with baggage handling... Being on a LH flight (Terminal B) to CGN about 30 hours ago, my wife still hasn't received her baggage.

Making several calls to the lost luggage offices in CGN and ZRH, we found out that yesterday (Jul 21), 14,000 pieces of baggage didn't leave ZRH as planned (the main reason being that the belts at checkin didn't work at all), and by now (Jul 22 afternoon) they still have a backlog of 8,000 pieces to handle...

Is this a general problem in ZRH, as it happened to us before (recently on a ZRH-ARN flight on SK) more than once? http://www.flyertalk.com/airports/ftairports_forum/frown.gif

Update from ZRH lost luggage office tonight:

they'll need at least until Tuesday to bring every piece of luggage that stayed in ZRH on Saturday on its way ... To the original destination that is, regardless if another destination is recorded by now. http://www.flyertalk.com/airports/ftairports_forum/frown.gif

And the airlines still have the guts to complain about the large amounts of carry-on's nowadayas? Now I know why I never check any bags...

thiese problems in ZRH started about 6 weeks ago when the (so called) modernized ultra-modern baggage-transportation system was introduced ...

Is this baggage problem occuring only on departing flights, or arrivals also?

From what I heard (and experienced), departure and mainly transit are most affected, arrival should hopefully (will try that out on Sat) not be a major problem.
