I was beginning to think we were all alone out there. It's great to see some support from FT.

I will gladly share what I know about travelling with a wheelchair and accessibility issues.

I'm glad to see this too!

Most of my travel is related to the consulting/volunteer disability rights advocacy that I do, and is mostly from coast to coast, or once a year abroad. What I want to travel comfortably is not straightforward accommodations, but an aisle seat, no pets or perfume, no 35 minute connections where I have to scurry, minimizing missed connections ... Keeping my AA Platinum status has made a big difference for me.

Another "Glad to see this!" http://www.flyertalk.com/travel/fttravel_forum/smile.gif

I use a power wheelchair whenever possible, but for some trips take only my manual wheelchair, so I've experience in what airlines (and railroads, for that matter) can do to either type.

I travel at least once a year to Australia, and I've visited Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore, New Zealand (North Island), Canada, Mexico (very little), and quite a bit of the US. I'm happy to answer questions about my experiences.

Perfect timing. I just started coming back to FT and it's really great to have this forum. I'm Deaf but I alswo have a nerve disease that has made me unable to walk, among other things. I use a powerchair but use a manual when flying. [I haven't been brave enough to bring my powerchair yet.]

I think it does. I don't have any disabilities, save occasional bouts of lucidity in the afternoon.

I think this board is a great idea, as long as it doesnt segregate these issues from those who need to hear about them (ie. everybody, not just those with a specific interest in disability issues). If I post a thread about disabled travel on travelbuzz, will it be moved away from those who need to see it, just because it is 'disabled'? I hope the moderators will show restraint when deciding what gets moved here and what doesn't.
