I'm thinking about taking a double stroller (side by side) for the next trip. Has anyone taken double stroller to his/her air travel?
Should I take a single stroller and backpack style infant/todder carrier instead?
Thanks,

I think it depends on where you are going. If I was going somewhere that I would be getting on and off a lot of buses or metros I would definitely avoid a double stroller and go with a backpack and small foldable stroller (an umbrella stroller ideally).
On the other hand, if you are taking a double stroller because you have twins/really young kids and need the space under the stroller for diaper bags and the like, or you are going somewhere and staying put, then this convenience may outway the hassle of getting it on and off public transportation.
I guess what I am saying is that we need more info to really make a good suggestion for you.

We have travelled with both. My preference is the double wide stroller. ours is the large jogger type, wheels come off for travel. It is bulky and awkward for the flight itself and the airport manoevouring, however, it is so much nicer at the destination. At 6'4", it is much easier to push, and the large wheels go over anything, great on the beach.

When the twins were young enough to need strollers, we chose the single 'umbrella' type ones. Double stroller was just too unwieldy. If you are traveling to a major market, you could consider renting one. Convenient for us was to persuade Grandma to buy one from a local consignment store and keep it there for our use. That worked ok.
