Doesn't have to be super luxury - just looking for somewhere nice/interesting that doesn't have 500 rooms...

Mr. Buster and I stayed at the Ritz Carlton in Kuala Lumpur several years ago, and thought that it was one of the nicest hotels we'd been in. The room was quite large, very tastefully furnished and decorated (the bed sported a beautiful Jim Thompson silk comforter), and had a wonderful large bathroom with separate tub and large glass shower. At a rate of US$75/night, you can't go wrong!

Several years ago we stayed at the Rasa Sayang hotel on Batu Feringhi Beach in Penang. We loved the hotel, the beach and although it is a large hotel, it doesn't feel like one. It is considered a 5 star hotel, yet is fairly reasonable; I believe that rates start at about $100 a day.
