I am flying into FLL during Memorial Day weekend and wanted to know where a good place to stay and do.

I went to this place called "cathode ray club" once, I have no idea how to get there I was with a friend from West Palm, but it was fun. The beach area is nice, i've been out for dinner there. Anyone else?

Key West seems to be the obvious suggestion (at least for this heterosexual FLL native).

Places to Stay

I've stayed at The Worthington Guesthouse. Perfectly fine B&B, nice pool and patio area. Low-key place, like staying w/ your friends.

I've heard *the* place to stay is The Royal Palms. Everything I've read makes it sounds like a very nice place to stay.

Places to Go

Cathode Ray Club is on Los Olas, fun shopping and eating area. Very yuppie and trendy.

Johnny's. Fun local bar with male go-gos. Cute and fun dancers.

I hear, but haven't been, that Copas and Sea Monster are the big nightclubs.

Haulover Beach. Nude beach between Lauderdale and N. Miami beach. Amazing beach.

Pretty close to Haulover is Bissaleh Cafe, 17608 Collins Ave. in Miami Beach. This is an amazing little kosher restaurant, all sorts of yummie foods.


Club Ft. Lauderdale is a bath house with outside pool, spa, etc, supposed to be very nice if thats your deal.

SoBe is about a 1hr drive, and worth doing for the clubs, bars, and a walk around Lincoln Blvd and Ocean Blvd.

SoBe is fun and an easy drive, but beware. We were there last Memorial Day weekend and there was some 2nd annual fashion shindig going on, and everyone and their mother turned out and SoBe was one big gridlock. I would check to see if that is going on again so you at least know.

Just to add a few comments from someone who lives in Fort Lauderdale ...me!

Royal Palms is nice place to stay, upscale and convenient to the beaches.
However, I prefer a guest house named "Pineapple Point". It is located off Las Olas about 1 mile from the beach - to me it is nicer than Royal Plams and probably somewhat cheaper.

Cathode Ray is a great club, I prefer Alibi located in city of Wilton Manors (the heart of Gay Ft Lauderdale). Wilton Manors has the highest gay resident population outside of West Hollywood I am told! Lots of restaurants, shops etc. Wilton Manors is actually surrounded by Fort Lauderale on all sides.

You can get other suggestions from the local rag, HotSpots. They have their own website which is quite good and updated weekly, www.hotspotsmagazine.com. (http://www.hotspotsmagazine.com.)

Ref South Beach - yes there is again an Urban Hip Hop weekend planned for Memorial Day. Unless you are into Hip Hop, I'd avoid SoBe at all costs.

Any other recommendations for FLL? I have a night to kill here on 11/1/02 and can pick someplace out, they are all very cheap due to offseason rates.

I stayed here www.theflamingoresort.com/index.htm (http://www.theflamingoresort.com/index.htm) and really liked it. Nice place. Great owner and a friendly crowd. Close to the beach. As for bars, depends on what type of establishment/crowd you like. I'm sure a local would know better than me. Forgot to add that Mark's Las Olas ( www.chefmark.com/markslasolas.htm (http://www.chefmark.com/markslasolas.htm) ) is a great restaurant. My personal favorite in FLL.

That is a nice place! I am still looking, there are some smaller and less expensive places. I really don't need posh, friendly and fun works for me.

This will be my 5th time at this place as one of my friends works there, it is nice and gay friendly, in Del Ray beach which two of my friends run a gay owned/operated jewelry store called "Mermaids Purse". Generally I have always liked Del Ray and its close proximity to Ft Lauderdale and West Palm Beach.

My favorite place to stay in FLL is Pineapple Point (http://www.pineapplepoint.com). I've stayed there quite a few times and their attentive staff and overall quality of accomodations have made this one of my most favorite places to stay in Florida.

I'll add my vote for the Flamingo. That place is fab.
