I particularly like the low-key way this forum was introduced. No global announcement which would attract naysayers; just simple notification in those forums where people who favored this forum have been posting.

One other positive is the forum subtitle: "Share your tips, recommendations, and advice on gay travel here." It's obvious that an effort was made to make it simple, clear, and descriptive of the narrow focus.

May the posts that this description intended to exclude not happen: e.g., non-travel gay chat, flirting/pickup talk, and restaurant/travel recommendations that all FTers would enjoy and benefit from.

A big thanks to Randy, the board, and everyone who posted their positive feedback and ideas for making this happen (particularly peteropny and rpmkwpw for getting everything started).

Obviously, Blair and I will be watching closely for TOS problems from those who disagree with the forum or homosexuality in general to ensure a safe place, but we'll also need everyone's help to ensure that our own conversations stay on topic and adhere to the TOS overall.

It was a long (and winding) road to get the forum established and we'll probably be watched closely for a little while, so it will be even more important here to toe the line, but we've all been there and know what we have to do.

So, welcome to the forum and let's make it a great one!

I'd do a happy dance, but I dance even worse than I sing.

So, did you hear the one about the Gay, Lesbian, Bi-sexual, and transgendered walking into a bar...wait, that's a priest, minister and a rabbi....no, I mean a United PremEx, an American Platinum, and a ...oh never mind.

Wendy, our relationship is far too well settled, secure and established to require flirting, but everybody already knows that I think you are adorably funny and cute too. http://www.flyertalk.com/travel/fttravel_forum/wink.gif

Sooner or later you are going to have to learn to dance. How about if I teach you in ORD. I can lead while you are learning.

Well, this calls for a celebration! Who wants to be on the decorating committee?

Looking forward to all the positive comments and travel tips offered by other GLBT FT members.

Wow! San Francisco finally gets around to having a community center, and we get our own forum all in the same month!!!

So, um, now that were here, what are we going to do?

My sentiments exactly!! If I weren't enjoying a lazy Sunday afternoon by exploring the "other" forums, it might have been quite a while before I discovered this board. I should venture out more often from the UA and Community boards. There's a whole other FT world out here http://www.flyertalk.com/travel/fttravel_forum/smile.gif

Thanks to all who motivated Randy et al. to create this board.

As a member of Talkboard AND this special community, I am so happy to see this Forum up and running.

I only hope this Forum provides to be as invaluable as the other portions of Flyertalk.

Blair and Robb, good luck... and hopefully little moderation. (in this board... and not in drinks... oh wait, perhaps in drinks also!!!) http://www.flyertalk.com/travel/fttravel_forum/smile.gif

I'm straight and think this forum is
long overdue. It will give many of us insight to the problems our friends encounter that we might not be aware of otherwise. http://www.flyertalk.com/travel/fttravel_forum/smile.gif

I'd also like to thank everybody for the fantastic contributions that are on the forum.

Great conversations are going on with great information. It's the best response to the concerns of what our forum would be like, and everyone has done a great job!

Thanks again.

Bringing this back to the top as it's been a year now that Randy opened the GLBT Travelers forum at FlyerTalk.

I'd like to thank Robb for a year of excellent moderation (happily, little was needed as it turns out) and everyone else who has contributed here over the last year. I have especially enjoyed peteropny's heartfelt "Welcome!" extended to first-time posters in the Roll Call (http://www.flyertalk.com/travel/fttravel_forum/Forum53/HTML/000037.html) thread. http://www.flyertalk.com/travel/fttravel_forum/smile.gif

Overall, (and this is, of course, just my opinion) I don't think that there have been all that many entirely "gay specific" travel topics, which is perhaps a good sign of our ability today to travel to most destinations around the world without having to worry too much about our health or safety.

There have been some interesting exchanges and sharing of information, and I thank Randy for providing us with this forum.
