Below is a letter I recently wrote to Delta. Anyone care to write them as well?

Dear Mr. Mullin,

I would like to bring to your attention a problem I encountered with your airline's experience.

I would appreciate some feedback or response to this. I am a little disappointed to find out about Delta's definition of "spouse" when it pertains to Crown Room Memberships. The reason? I have a domestic partner who is registered in the state of California. Being that it is illegal to marry as a homosexual couple, I would think that an airline who offers domestic partner benefits within the corporation, along with many friends of mine who are gays and lesbians travel with Delta (many of which are elite status such as myself) that benefits as a loyal customer to the airline wouldn't be applicable to same sex relationships.

To be honest, I've been very satisfied with your airline in the past.I definitely will fly your airline in the future, despite this incident, and I still plan on recommending Delta Air Lines to others.

Here's what I'd like to see happen: I would ask that as we enter an age of tolerance and understanding for our diverse community of frequent flyers that this policy be reviewed and possibly reconsidered.

Here's a little about me: I've flown 25-50 times in the past 12 months, mostly for business. I usually buy a K and M class tickets. I am a Platinum customer since 1999. I have been elite since 1998.

I hope you are able to address my concerns. I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Sincerely,

I'd be happy to write a letter to DL, but since I haven't flown them in years, I'm not sure how effective it will be. I do bank at the DL credit union, though, since I worked for them in college--maybe that would count for something! http://www.flyertalk.com/travel/fttravel_forum/smile.gif

I find it hard to believe that they wouldn't be more accommodating with Crown Room spouse memberships, particularly considering all the recent DL ads I've seen in the Advocate, Out, etc.

I'm pretty surprised about this one. Not that I've flown DL in the past 10 years, but I'm surprised they have this no-same-sex policy when a lot of the competition doesn't.

While I don't think this is so much an anti-homosexual rule as it is a restriction such that only legal spouses can take advantage of the joint account. I would presume that they would say the same of an unmarried yet very committed heterosexual couple as well.

Now, this is not to say that they should follow the lead of other airlines who already permit same sex partners to take advantage of married rates provided they can demonstrate that both parties reside at the same address.

I too just noticed an ad in this month's Out proclaiming DL's diversity. Maybe you might want to mention as such in your letter.

Well, I only got a quick response saying that my letter has been forwarded to the Crown Room Committee...who is that?

When we got Domestic Partner Benefits at United, it also worked it's way down to benefits of the traveler as well. This includes Red Carpet Club memberships and travel agent free tickets....

I got a call from the customer manager of the Crown Room, which has told me that the customer service represenative that I spoke to prior to this letter was ill-informed and Delta indeed recognizes Domestic Partnership status if supplied with an Affidavit from the State. http://www.flyertalk.com/travel/fttravel_forum/smile.gif

That is really great for those of us in states like Utah.

It will be at least 10 Mormon prophets before we will see domestic partnership registration in UT.

Is this an actual DP affadavit, or simply an affadavit affirming the couple's relationship that is required?
