we *United with Pride* had that brought in a while ago... all employees have access to health insurance, travel benefits, pension, 401k, etc.

I think they just add it into each contract as a benefit per the union rules..

It's new for Mileage Plus employees. Before I left it was something we pushed for. Sent a petition around about it.

Having a union must be nice. A few years ago my former employer was a small start-up. Somehow the Chairman/VC and I bonded. Might have been the cigars and champagne at the employee meeting in Dallas. Anyway, he suggested we have lunch in a few weeks when we were both back in Chicago. We did. At the end of lunch he asked what other benefits this unnamed employer should offer. I suggested Domestic Partner benefits. Outed myself right over dessert.

Two months later, at the next all employee meeting, the domestic partner benefit coverage was announced (even for those that have the legal right to marry but choose not to). A few months after that, my manager said my work was not to her liking and I was let go. And the first words out of the firing supervisor's mouth were, "This has nothing to do with you being gay."
