Scotairways (formerly Suckiling Airways) flies EDI-LCY and a few otehr routes (A few English places to Amsterdam if I recall correctly).

It sounds very nice (it trie sto lay on the Scottish stuff big time) but it is, in fact, half owned by mr Brain Souter.

Scotland is a small country (of 5 millioj folk) and he spend £2million trying to persuade the Government not to repeal and anti-gay law.

We had billboards all over our cities with anti-gay messages (thank God for spirited lesbians who would get up in the middle of the night and paint over them). He tried to paint the law reform as a threat to children.

It was not a happy time.

Thankfully our new Parliament refused to be bought by a homophobic millionaire and the law was repealed.

Don't fly with his airline though - any money he makes may be used to cause real harm to LGBT folk in Scotland.

Thanks for the warning. But a word to other readers: please do not let that isolated, if well funded, bigotry prevent you from visiting Scotland. I just spent a weekend in Feb in Glasgow visiting relatives. My own experience was great. I found the Glaswegian gay community friendlier than in most large US cities that I have visited, and that was both before and after they heard my American accent. That is, before they had reason to think I was anything other than a local and then still after they knew I was just an ugly American!

Yes, and he also owns Stagecoach, which runs loads of bus companies throughout the UK and is part owner of Virgin Trains and my personal favourite SouthWorstTrains (ok, it is really soutwest trains), which run really crappy commuter services in London and Surrey. Thankfully, LHR_Tim now drives to LGW!

He owns a US bus company that is called, something like, Coach America or Coach USA (I can't remember which).

I looked them up during our campaign so that I could get US friends involved in boycotting them. They apparently run airport shuttles in some cities.

Yes, one of his head people (just after the anti-gay stuff back home) was arrested in Dallas for soliciting a male prostitute who turned out to be police.

(I take it that they have solved all other crimes in Dallas so can concentrate on entrapping people liek this instead!)
