OK, so in all our domestic travels, we're always able to hit the little gay shops and get some gay T-Shirt for the city (City name and some take on a rainbow flag or colors or something like that). There are tons of shirts like this in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Dallas, Houston, or anywhere you go.

So, why internationally is it so rare? I couldn't find a single gay souvenir shirt in Sydney, Paris or London last year. In Sydney, the little shops looked at me like I was crazy and they had never heard of such a thing.

All of these cities certainly have tons of general souvenir shirts, but no gay ones.

Anyone know why?

Maybe the United States is more of a t-shirt culture than the rest of the world.

Do you actually wear these?

Admittedly I have seen some very nice HRC Provincetown tshirts. (ps anyone else in ptown this summer?)

P'Town? Good lord, the other half had us pre-booked for this summer last August!! Though we weren't as bad as some folks, who were fighting over specific rooms for 2004 http://www.flyertalk.com/travel/fttravel_forum/rolleyes.gif

Yes, I actually wear these!

Mostly around the house and on grungy Saturdays, the same place you'd wear any souvenir shirt, but I like to get them.

One of my favorites was a Washington DC shirt that had a DC logo that upon closer inspection stood for Dupont Circle.

slumgoddess - That would be true, but they all sorts of other souvenir shirts, just not gay-themed ones.

And yes, I did finally spell check souvenir, but it still seems wrong!!

I think you have stumbled on a cultural difference.. i don't think any of my friends and i would be seen dead in a 'my boyfriend went to the castro and all he brought me was the clap' t shirt'.

Seriously, thinking hard now, the only T Shirts on sale appear at Pride Festivals, and then get lost in the frenzy of topless dancing that same night.
