My brother and sister in law are looking for a nice hotel getaway in the Wilmington area in early August. Actually, they are prepared to go up to a 2-hour drive radius. They would probably most enjoy a pool/spa, ocean or golf theme getaway location.

I looked at the Hotel Du Pont for them. That seemed good but I do not know the area at all.

Anyone with any advice?

Regards (and thanks in advance)

The Hotel Dupont is certainly the best in class in the area and a 4 ½ star overall. Many presidents, ambassadors, kings etc have stayed there and stayed again. Some info at: http://www.dupont.com/hotel/home.htm . Itsa classic European hotel in a second class small city.

My recommendation and a close 4 star second is the Christiana Hilton about 6-10 min outta Wimington via I-95. The Hilton has a nice pool, very good restaurant and special golf etc packages and outings. The 4th floor executive lounge has many hours of free booze, really nice hors d vours etc. Itsa well worth the additional cost over the regular rooms. Some info at: http://www.hilton.com/en/hi/hotels/index.jhtml?ctyhocn=ILGCHHF

They wont go wrong with either location. You can forget the other places except for http://www.besthotelsresorts.com/montchanin.htm . I have had friends stay there, far prefer it to the 2 hotels above and they love it. I enjoy the restaurant.

Got to agree. Hotel DuPont or the place in Montchannin. Can stay in a Hilton anywhere, and it's a bit of a drive to Chritiana.

For activities I recommend:

Longwood Gardens - A must
Wintethur (sp?) - A must
Hagley Museum
Delaware Art Museum
Brandywine Art Museum

Hope they have a good time.

Is the lovely Eastern shore village of St. Michael's too far?

Thanks to all. They had a great trip.

Actually announcing Wilmington as a "city they wouldn't mind moving to"
