Despite its financial problems, American Skiing Co. remains committed to developing a ski village at its Killington resort, company CEO B.J. Fair told the annual meeting of the Rutland Region Chamber of Commerce on Tuesday.
Fair also said Killington was well positioned this winter to take advantage of vacationers’ reluctance to fly following the Sept. 11 attacks.
American Skiing Co. has been mired in a sea of red ink for several years as the company embarked on what Fair admitted was an overly aggressive expansion plan. However, he said the company was well on its way to putting its financial house in order. He noted the fourth quarter loss ($114 million) announced last week was the smallest in its history and included several one-time charges.
